It’s Vacation Time! Mexico Tops Holiday Season’s International Getaway List

While there’s no place like home for the holidays, there’s also nothing quite like an incredible winter getaway. CheapOair®, the budget-friendly online travel agency, has named its top ten international destinations to take the perfect holiday vacation.

For a second consecutive year, Mexico topped the list with a 9% increase in travelers from 2018 to 2019. Additionally, India and the Philippines rounded out the top three spots with a steady increase in passenger volume over the last few years.

“This year we saw a spike in travelers taking advantage of visiting exotic destinations around the world to see and experience various cultures. If you’re not visiting friends or family this December, the lower airfare is very enticing to consumers who are looking to get a last-minute trip in before the New Year begins,”  said Tom Spagnola, CheapOair’s Senior Vice President of Supplier Relations.

Jamaica, which is known for its rich culture, saw a 77% increase in bookings year-over-year as more tourists are flocking to take part in the numerous festivities that begin in December and run through New Year’s Day.

CheapOair’s findings also found that although many customers were heading for warmer weather, some savvy snowbirds sought out cold-weather destinations as their preferred holiday vacation.

“Warm weather travel is always at its peak during the holiday season, however many travelers are still making plans to visit the cooler regions like England and Toronto. If you’re looking to celebrate the holidays around the world, international travel to Asia or Europe has extremely attractive costs right now as they’re considered to be in their low season,” added Spagnola.

CheapOair’s mission is to educate and aid consumers and travel professionals in both planning their travel accommodations and staying current on the most popular destinations. Thanks to its unique comprehensive travel trend monitoring, the online travel agency does just that.

Sabre and Fareportal Partnership Drives Innovation and Ingenuity for Tech-Savvy Travelers

Fareportal leverages its technology-first approach as launch partner on Sabre’s enhanced car API

Fareportal, the travel technology company powering CheapOair.com and OneTravel.com, and Sabre Corporation today announced the launch of Sabre’s new car shopping API. As Sabre’s launch partner, Fareportal is embracing its technology-first approach to enhance the shopping experience and overall travel experience for its customers.

Sabre’s recently-released car shopping API is designed to help travelers find the best car rental option through enhanced search capabilities including vehicle images, logos, hours of operation, latitude and longitude. The new API enables travelers to easily shop by using the number of bags and seatbelts to select a vehicle to accommodate their needs.

The new car shopping API is the latest collaboration between Sabre and Fareportal. Recently, Fareportal became the first OTA to adopt Sabre’s Agency Managed Commission, a solution that helps agencies increase revenue by automatically capturing commissions for every itinerary in real-time. As Sabre launches additional API offerings, Fareportal will continue to participate in the testing process as part of its strategic focus to utilize technology and bring consumers new shopping capabilities that will enhance the end-to-end traveler experience.

“At Fareportal, part of our strategy to create a competitive edge is to leverage new and existing technologies to give travelers a better experience when shopping our brands,” said Sam S. Jain, founder and CEO of Fareportal. “This is why our partnership with Sabre has been so valuable and successful. Sabre keeps us at the forefront so we can deliver a stand-out experience to travelers, which in turn creates loyalty and preference for our brands.”

Since inception, Fareportal has placed the highest value on technological innovation, and this approach continues to benefit the company’s customers and airline partners. Jain was one of the first to foresee airfare unbundling and as a result, CheapOair was the first OTA to integrate the ability to purchase seats, bags, and other ancillaries.

“Sabre is committed to providing our OTA customers with the differentiated products they need to exceed their customers’ expectations, and this begins with our APIs,” said Roshan Mendis, chief commercial officer of Sabre Travel Network. “Fareportal is a great partner with a shared focus on delivering a next-generation travel shopping experience. As we work to develop new capabilities, their partnership and feedback help us take our solutions to the next level.”

One of the world’s leading online travel agencies (OTA) with multiple consumer brands, Fareportal is a long-time Sabre customer and among other solutions relies on Sabre’s low-fare shopping solutions including Bargain Finder Max across its brands to meet the changing expectations of travelers.

Don’t be Scared! CheapOair Has Tips to Avoid Travel Nightmares

Halloween might be a spooky good time, but most travelers would rather see a ghost than have a bad experience at the airport. CheapOair®, the leading provider of affordable flights, wants to help consumers avoid common pain points with some tricks that will make travel a treat.

Missing Luggage
Check in as early as possible. Most travel nightmares begin with a rush to the airport and lost luggage is one of the most common and the most tedious travel setback.

“Checking in at the last minute may cause the airline baggage handlers to miss getting your luggage to your destination. Make sure you get the bar code for the luggage tag that goes on your bag. This is how the airlines can track your bag should they not be able to find the luggage. The bar code will save you a lot of time and frustration trying to find your luggage,” said Tom Spagnola, Senior Vice President of Supplier Relations at Fareportal.

It is also recommended that travelers place an itinerary inside their luggage in case the tag gets ripped off in transit. This will allow the airline to reunite consumers with their lost items a lot faster.

Missed Connections
There’s nothing that gets the heart pumping faster than an airport-length sprint to another terminal. A missed connection could derail an entire vacation.

“Should you be taking a connecting flight, try to avoid one that is less than one hour. The more room for error, the less likely you are to find yourself stranded and losing valuable time. With an abundance of restaurants, shops, and lounges now available at most major airports, a longer layover isn’t as tiresome as it used to be,” advised Spagnola.

Preparation is key. Travelers should plan the best they can by downloading an app (CheapOair offers one) that can keep them updated on flight times, delays, and gate changes. This will help circumvent any last-minute surprises that may lead to a missed flight.

For consumers that do miss their connections, see a gate agent immediately to confirm when then next flight will be available. As frustrating as it may feel, a cool head and a calm demeanor can work wonders when trying to get on another flight.

Passport Problems
A lost passport is everyone’s worst fear but there are several other passport snafus that can end a trip before it even begins.

As a rule of thumb, a passport should be valid up to 6-months AFTER the return date of your trip. It is also important that the document is not damaged in any way. A mangled passport can and will be denied by a TSA agent.

“Most people forget how easily a damaged passport could stop someone from getting on a flight. If there is damage beyond the usual “wear and tear” such as discoloration, ripped pages, or indecipherable details, that document is not fit for air travel. If you’re unsure, it’s always safest to get a new passport at least one month before you’re set to fly,” remarked Ruben Bello, Vice President of International Operations at Fareportal.

CheapOair’s mission is to educate and aid consumers and travel professionals in both planning their travel accommodations and staying current on the most popular destinations. Thanks to its unique comprehensive travel trend monitoring, the online travel agency does just that.

CheapOair App Adds New Traveler Friendly Features

CheapOair®, the flight focused online travel agency, is rolling out new mobile app features designed to expedite the often-tedious air travel process. These features will include mobile boarding passes and online check-in all within a single app ecosystem.

The CheapOair app, which is traditionally known as an airfare booking tool, has expanded its functionality to become a one-stop-shop for booking vacations that erases the usual headache that comes from planning travel.

“Making travel effortless is at the core of everything that we do. One of the most stressful experiences for travelers is going through the check-in process when they arrive at the airport. Our new automated check-in and boarding pass feature brings travelers peace of mind by checking them in automatically as soon as the airline allows. Travelers can then easily access their boarding pass in the CheapOair mobile app,” said Nipun Joshi, Fareportal Head of Product for Mobile Applications.

Another common consumer pain point CheapOair’s team was determined to solve stemmed from the inconvenience that comes from having to use multiple platforms when not only booking a trip but also during travel.

“In today’s world where there’s an app for absolutely everything, we wanted to streamline and consolidate every step of the travel journey, making CheapOair a full experience travel app for our customers. Switching back and forth between apps is not something we want our customers to worry about, particularly when they’re getting ready to fly,” remarked Sam S. Jain, Fareportal Founder and CEO.

CheapOair.com Reveals Top Destinations for Winter Escapes and Getaways

Today CheapOair®, the premier online travel agency and leading provider of affordable flights, announced the top destinations for the upcoming winter travel season. The list includes options for warm-weather escapes to beachside paradises, as well as popular getaways that offer everyone’s favorite cold weather winter activities.

“This winter, travelers will have the opportunity to enjoy popular destinations without the hefty price-tag as we continue to see even more introductory Basic Economy fares, compared to last year,” said Tom Spagnola, CheapOair’s Senior Vice President of Supplier Relations.

According to CheapOair’s data, many travelers are unsurprisingly opting for warm-weather escapes throughout the winter months to top destinations like Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, and Tampa. After analyzing new booking trends, Florida remains one of the most popular destinations for winter travel; however, CheapOair also determined an increase in tropical destinations including Guadalajara, Mexico City, and San Juan.

When it comes to finding that perfect winter wonderland, CheapOair’s booking data shows high traffic to northern American cities including New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. Denver is also among the top destinations for a winter getaway this year, as the city continues to grow in popularity for its variety of snowy outdoor activities available.

“We’re seeing an uptick from previous winters in U.S. travelers either escaping the cold to tropical outposts down south or embracing popular winter regions to hit the ski slopes and picturesque lodges. Our data is forecasting a mix of both retreats, and top destinations include sunny Mexico and snow-filled Colorado,” remarked Spagnola.

It’s That Time Again! CheapOair Offers their Best Thanksgiving Travel Tips

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and with it comes the most stressful travel season of the year. Thankfully, it doesn’t have to be. CheapOair®, the premier online travel agency and leading provider of affordable flights, is sharing their best tips and tricks to ensure that travelers everywhere make it to the dinner table come Turkey Day.

Book Early (Time is of the Essence!)
If you’re reading this and you haven’t booked your Thanksgiving flight yet, there’s no time like the present. Most airlines’ prices start to spike in early November and continue to rise through the New Year. According to CheapOair’s data, the cheapest time to book Thanksgiving travel is in October with an average U.S domestic cost of $379.05.*

Leave a Little Bit Early or a Little Bit Late
The Sunday after Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel days of the year and can lead to a tense travel experience. Avoid the rush by leaving on either Black Friday, a day many people choose to relax in a post-meal stupor, or the Tuesday after travelers are already back to their normal work routines.

“Airline prices can be dramatically cheaper traveling on the ‘non-peak’ days during Thanksgiving week. Major airports will be less crowded, getting through TSA will be faster, and the demand for overhead bin space to put your carry-on will be much easier, which will avoid having to check your bag,” said Tom Spagnola, Senior Vice President of Supplier Relations at Fareportal.

Skip the Checked Luggage
If possible, stick to a carry-on. The kiosks for self-luggage check-in will be almost as long as the lines at the actual check-in counter. If a bag needs to be checked, consider consolidating your family’s luggage into one suitcase to minimize any potential fees or lost luggage mishaps.

There will be a much higher percentage of families traveling over Thanksgiving, which means more people will be checking luggage. Some airlines charge fees to check luggage based on the type of fare that you purchased so the cost of checking luggage can add up quickly,” remarked Spagnola.

Take Advantage of Early Check-In on Apps
Most airlines now allow you to check in online twenty-four hours before your expected departure, and with the CheapOair app, app switching is no longer necessary. The app allows consumers to do this all in one spot so that the entire journey from check-in to return can be managed in one ecosystem.

CheapOair’s mission is to educate and aid consumers and travel professionals in both planning their travel accommodations and staying current on the most popular destinations. Thanks to its unique and comprehensive travel trend monitoring, the online travel agency does just that.

Look Who’s Cheap Now! CheapOair Unveils the Evolution of Their “Go Ahead, Be Cheap” Campaign

Today, CheapOair®, the premier online travel agency and leading provider of affordable flights, has introduced the second iteration of their 2018 “Go Ahead, Be Cheap” campaign with a brand new TV spot that asks viewers to “Look Who’s Cheap Now”.

Two years ago, the leading online travel agency introduced their first-ever brand positioning strategy with a campaign that revolved around the tagline “Go Ahead, Be Cheap”.  This concept aimed to transform the idea of cheapness into a celebration that featured the many positive aspects of being cheap with a focus on the freedom that comes from saving money on airfare. The successful campaign was well received by the public and contributed to CheapOair experiencing significant year-over-year growth.

“CheapOair is our flagship brand and we are extremely proud of the growth we’ve experienced in recent years.  The brand name has meaning, and the meaning is value.  With “Go Ahead, Be Cheap” we are telling consumers what CheapOair can mean to them – a great selection of prices on domestic and international airfares from over 600 airline partners”, said Sam S. Jain, CEO and Founder of Fareportal, the corporate owner of CheapOair and other travel brands.

Building on the foundation of its predecessor, the “Look Who’s Cheap Now” television commercial highlights how travelers have benefited from adopting the mantra of “cheapness”. The ad is supported by a lively musical track and continued narrative that spending less on airline tickets gives consumers the freedom to experience more on their vacation.

“We are an e-commerce company and look for ROI in everything we create.  “Go Ahead, Be Cheap” is a tagline and a call to action that works very well on television, social and digital channels,” said Kathi Moore, VP of Branding and Communications at Fareportal.  “We worked with Manhattan-based Rogue Producer on the original spot, so when the time came for the next edition, we were pleased to return to them to continue the story,” remarked Moore.

The new spot launched on YouTube, national cable, and network television in mid-September.

CheapOair.com Reveals the Most Popular Destinations for Fall Travel in the U.S.

Today, CheapOair®, the premier online travel agency and leading provider of affordable flights, announced the top destinations across the U.S. that travelers are visiting throughout the upcoming fall season.

“Fall is considered an off-peak travel season due to a lower demand of airfare ahead of the holidays, which results in some great deals to top destinations in the country,” said Tom Spagnola, CheapOair’s Senior Vice President of Supplier Relations.

After analyzing booking data across the country for September through November, CheapOair found that Las Vegas, NV is the most popular destination for travel this fall, followed by Denver, CO, Orlando, FL, and Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

CheapOair’s Top 2019 Fall Travel Destinations1

“Throughout 2019, Denver has shined as a highly booked getaway due to a variety of outdoor activities available for consumers to take advantage of, and an overall increase in adventure travel among millennials. Fall is also a great time to travel to Orlando to take advantage of less crowded amusement parks during this off-peak travel season.”
