In addition, the companies abandoned calls have decreased by 5% since 2014 due to protocols and procedures set in place so that these rates continue to decrease in the years to come. All of Fareportal’s customer service centers are operated in-house.

“Fareportal does not outsource,” said Ritesh Chaturbedi, General Manager, Global Operations for Fareportal, adding: “This ensures direct contact over customer service enabling our travel company to exceed customers’ expectations on a regular basis.”

Fareportal Handles 65,000 Calls during Storm Jonas

CheapOair, OneTravel and other Fareportal brands serve customers non-stop during the winter storm

NEW YORK, NY – Feb 10, 2016 – Fareportal, a technology company that operates consumer travel brands CheapOair and OneTravel, today released statistics of its customer care accomplishments during the recent snowstorm Jonas during the weekend of January 22, 2016.

Although Fareportal’s corporate offices and one of the main customer call centers in New York City stood directly in the path of Jonas, a staff of nearly 3,000 people internationally was working tirelessly to support customers 24 hours a day without interruption through the entire weekend. Despite the ferocity of the storm, which caused power outages up and down the East Coast, Fareportal’s websites, call centers worldwide, and social media pages were all up and running to serve customers’ needs without interruption. With nearly 11,000 U.S. flights cancelled and about 21,000-25,000 of Fareportal’s customers affected, representatives in call centers globally fielded an approximate total of 65,000 phone calls during the weekend. Despite the heavy call volume, the average handling time was only 8-9 minutes per call and it led to an equally impressive average call abandonment rate of just 6.5 %, globally.

“On January 22, the day before the storm, while New York City and other cities and towns along the East Coast were busy readying emergency snow removal and rescue staff in anticipation of the big storm, Fareportal was forming emergency troubleshooting teams of our own and ensuring that we would have extra staff in our customer care departments,” said Ritesh Chaturbedi, general manager of global operations at Fareportal. “Throughout the entire weekend, Fareportal relayed crucial travel information, including the many flight cancellation notices, to our customers on the customer support pages, and we treated every of the 65,000 calls we received with utmost urgency. We were there for all of our customers.”

The winter snowstorm Jonas brought an average of 2 feet of snow, hurricane strength winds, and coastal flooding from Louisiana to Maine and across parts of the southern Midwest, causing upwards of $850 million worth of damage, according to The Weather Channel. The 4th largest blizzard on record, Jonas halted business and travel for a large part of the U.S., as it buried roads, railways, and runways.

CheapOair Launches Secure Sockets Layer Pages

CheapOair now offers SSL throughout all of its pages, from landing to booking

NEW YORK, NY – January 5, 2015 – CheapOair, a leading hybrid (online/traditional) travel agency, announced today that it launched SSL on all its pages. This makes CheapOair the first online travel agency to offer secure sockets layer throughout its entire website, and not just in the shopping cart, offering travelers even more safety and security.

Approximately 15 million United States residents have their identities used fraudulently each year with financial losses totaling upwards of $50 billion (identitytheft.info). In 2014 alone, hackers have exposed the personal information of 110 million Americans – or 47 percent or U.S. adults (CNN Money, 2014). In 2014, the names of well-known online shopping sites were used in 7.3% of attacks, up from 2013 (Kaspersky Lab, February 2015). Deploying SSL greatly reduces the risk of such breaches and makes sure any personally identifiable information transmitted during the course of travel bookings, such as names, dates of birth, as well as travel details, remains encrypted and secure.

“CheapOair strives to make booking travel effortless, affordable and enjoyable. Making sure our customers’ personally identifiable information stays safe and secure is a key priority for us,” said Harsh Sood, chief technology officer at Fareportal, the parent company of CheapOair and OneTravel.

The new SSL launch also provides robust personalization of user experience on landing pages. Allowing all users to login securely to CheapOair enables the site to customize their journey from start to finish, automatically displaying users’ upcoming flight details, as well as flight status.

Tnooz Hackathon Participants Leverage Fareportal’s Technology

Fareportal recognizes two hackathon innovations that inspire and encourage travel

NEW YORK, NY – December 17, 2015 – Fareportal, a technology company that operates consumer travel brands CheapOair and OneTravel, recently opened its API to multiple teams of web developers and designers during Tnooz’s THack New York in New York City.

THack New York, a two-day hackathon presented by Tnooz, the leading source of travel news and information, brought developers and designers together to solve various challenges in travel using API technology from leading travel and technology brands, including Fareportal.

“Fareportal’s involvement in the inaugural THack New York Hackathon has been an exciting opportunity to see innovation in action,” said Harsh Sood, Fareportal’s CTO. “As a global technology company, we seek to foster collaboration within the technology community here in New York and worldwide, and constantly promote innovation.”

THack, which has taken place in major cities across the globe, including San Francisco, Sao Paulo, Seattle, Berlin and Hamburg, leveraged Fareportal’s API (https://www.fareportallabs.com/) and other leading travel brands’ technology during the New York event throughout the weekend.

As a result of THack, two teams were recognized with awards by members of Fareportal’s marketing and technology departments for creating travel app enhancements that make travel more enjoyable and effortless. The first innovation, a social travel planner, sought to ignite inspiration and discovery in travel. The other, a “text hovering” application, populates inspirational text messages with travel details.

“We’re excited about offering developers an opportunity to create innovations in travel that could enhance the travel technology community,” said Gene Quinn, CEO and co-founder of Tnooz. “By partnering with industry leaders like Fareportal, THack participants can gather and share insights with developers and designers from leading travel technology companies.”
